The Undergraduate Research Office's Open House a success, and a special note of thanks...

A message from URO's new Director, Dr. Allison Snow:

The Undergraduate Research Office held its Open House on 1/10/2006 on the first floor of Page Hall. In attendance were many faculty, staff, students, and supporters of the mission of this office.

The Undergraduate Research Office has been under construction for about a year since it was first approved as part of the Leadership Agenda. Thank yous go to many people who were critical to its inauguration:

For developing the Website: Cindy Gray from OIT, Alisa Paulsen from Psychology, Nancy O'Hanlon from the Library, Vicky Getis from TELR, Jenny Spolnick-Greathouse from International Affairs and Linda Schoen from the College of the Arts and Sciences.

For thinking and working creatively as Partners: Bill Childs from History, Shannon Dowdall from Honors and Scholars and the Denman Forum, Paul Bellair from Sociology, Don Larson from Spanish and Portugese, Tim Cain from OSU Expertise, Don Dell from Psychology, Chris Highley from English, Jay Yutzey from Business, Bob Gustafson from Engineering, Dennis McKay from Pharmacy, Susan Metros from OIT, Sarah Starr from OSURF, Karen Bruns from Outreach and Engagment, and Golden Jackson Mergler from Service Learning.

The Office has been well served by an eminent Faculty Steering Committee: Professors Bryan Joseph from Linguistics and Slavic and East European Studies, Dick Furnstahl from Physics, Ellen Moseley-Thompson from Geography and Byrd Polar Research Center, Frank Schwartz from Geological Sciences and Civil and Environmental Engineering, Susan Hadley from Dance, and Peter Shane from the Law.

An Undergraduate Advisory committee for the Website has been extremely helpful: Eliot Dow, Ivan Furre, Molly Paras, Leann Benkart.

And finally, the development of the Office for the past months owes an enormous debt of gratitude to Dr. Katherine Meyer, Office of Undergraduate Studies and Department of Sociology, for leading all of these efforts, and to our Webmaster, Dion Charles, who is a graduate student in the Fisher College of Business, for his skill and good judgement.

To all of these people and others, we are grateful and look forward to many excellent collaborations in the years to come.

The Undergraduate Research Office welcomes its new Director, Professor Allison Snow!

Professor Snow hails from the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology, in the College of Biological Sciences. She has a longstanding relationship with The Ohio State University, having worked here since 1988.

Professor Snow is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, including an Aldo Leopold Leadership Fellowship from the Ecological Society of America, and a Scientific American Award as one of 50 Leaders in Science and Technology. In 2002, she received a Distinguished Scholar Award from The Ohio State University.

In addition to these prestigious awards, Professor Snow has also held leadership positions in nationally recognized organizations, such as the Botanical Society of America (President) and the International Society for Biosafety Research (Treasurer).

The Undergraduate Research Office also welcomes its new Webmaster, Dion Sterling Charles!

Dion is a Graduate Assistant with experience in webpage design and maintenance, and will be responsible for all website related issues.

He is a second year Masters of Business Administration candidate at Fisher College of Business, with a focus on Operations and Logistics, and a minor in Strategy.
