Kudos to all those who participate in research at the Ohio State University! These are some noteworthy mentions of Ohio State undergraduate researchers and mentors.
-
A SURE Thing! This summer, 11 undergraduate students majoring in geological sciences are participating in an eight-week Shell Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE.) The students applied for acceptance to the competitive program and spend at least 32 hours each week working on their chosen research projects. The Shell Exploration and Production Company donated $25,000 to the School of Earth Sciences to fund the program. The student participants are: John Calhoun, Matthew Dugan, Lindsey Hannah, Eugenia Hyung, Kera Judy, William Magee, Jeffrey Pigott, Jonathan Pratt, Saskia Smith, Justin Von Bargen, and Carla Whisner. Kudos to all!
- Erica Haugtvedt, a third-year English and Psychology major, recently learned her first academic article, "Abandoned in America: Identity Dissonance and Ethnic Presentationism in O.E Rølvaag's Giants in the Earth," has been accepted for publication in the journal MELUS (Summer 2008 issue, volume 33.3), published by the Society of Multi-ethnic Literature in the United States.
Denman Undergraduate Research Forum Winners
The Denman Undergraduate Research Forum was created in 1996 and is a cooperative effort of The Ohio State University's Honors & Scholars Center, The Undergraduate Research Office, and The Office of Research. The Forum is an opportunity to showcase outstanding student research from all corners of the university and encourage all undergraduates to participate in research as a value-added element of their education.
Distinguished Undergraduate Research Mentor Award
The Distinguished Undergraduate Research Mentor Award was created in 2007 to recognize outstanding faculty who serve as research advisers and mentors for undergraduates at Ohio State. Faculty are nominated by students presenting in the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum, and the winners are chosen by a student committee.
